This work engages with the question of Southern voting power by recognizing and critically challenging the oversimplification of the South—and, in turn, its residents—as a bigoted monolith, a stain of Reconstruction's failures.

As a young voter in North Carolina, a key battleground state, I see it as my duty to interrogate these simplifications while uplifting the voices this generalization so often erases entirely: Black Southern voters.
