This piece is a meditation on how I felt the criminalization of my abortion intersected with my Indigenous identity. While I suffered the trauma of systemic limitations on my autonomy, I reflected on the similar experiences of institutionalization, state violence, and exploitation of my Cherokee ancestors. In making this zine from pieces of The Cherokee Phoenix, I imagined a future for my descendants in which autonomy is not a question. This is not only for me, but for my family, Cherokee Nation, and the next generation.
